Preface
The Asian Academy of Arts launched the Asia Emerging Artists List to inspire and support the next generation of artists. Each year, through a three-round selection process across five major cities—Shanghai, New York, London, Singapore, and Hong Kong—the program highlights promising Asian artists with distinctive perspectives, creative vision, and a strong passion for contemporary art.
We seek artists who challenge themselves, express individuality, and move people through their work. They may be newcomers or innovators blending traditional forms with fresh ideas. Our definition of “emerging” goes beyond age—we value bold attitudes, interdisciplinary thinking, and the use of experimental media and technology to craft a personal, distinctive artistic voice.
Why Was This List Created?
This initiative reflects our confidence in the creative potential of Asia and our belief in the unique value of emerging artists. Their work not only expresses personal vision but also carries shared voices that transcend time and borders. We hope this list brings greater attention and support to new artistic voices and builds a bridge for the next generation of Asian artists to step onto the global stage.
What Kind of Artists Are We Looking For?
We are looking for artists with distinctive perspectives, fresh ideas, and a strong passion for exploring contemporary art. Whether they are at the beginning of their careers or have yet to gain wider recognition, we value those who push boundaries, assert individuality, and create work that resonates.
How We Define Emerging Artists
We define emerging artists not by age but by creative mindset and drive for innovation. They may work across disciplines, experiment with new media and technologies, and infuse their practice with fresh energy and cultural depth through a distinct artistic voice.
How We Support Emerging Artists ？
For many artists, breaking through art world barriers and gaining global exposure is a pressing need. We aim to create an open and inclusive platform that connects emerging artists with the international art scene. With our global network and resources, we strive to help them access greater visibility and broader opportunities worldwide.
Selection Criteria
Our selection process is guided by the Asian Academy of Arts’ expert advisory board, composed of seasoned scholars and art professionals. They bring deep academic knowledge, sharp artistic insight, and extensive cross-cultural and international experience to the evaluation process.
Application Requirements
1，Applicants must be of Asian nationality or currently based in Asia.
2，Submitted works must include high-resolution images with clear notes on dimensions and materials.
3，All works must be original and must not infringe upon any third-party copyrights.
4，Each artist may apply through only one city per year.
5，Artists must agree to cooperate with all stages of the selection process.
Selection Process
Through a three-round selection held annually in five major cities, we identify promising emerging Asian artists for inclusion in the Asia Emerging Artists List.
This is the first round, conducted online.
Current selection city: New York, USA
Application period: Now through May 10, 2025
Selected artists will advance to the second round, which includes an in-person exhibition and award evaluation. From there, the Top 100 artists will be chosen.
Note: By submitting your work, you grant the organizing institution the right to use selected images for promotional, non-commercial purposes, including but not limited to exhibitions, catalogs, press releases, and online media. Copyright remains with the artist.
Submission Details
1, Accepted Work Types:
All mediums are welcome (e.g. painting, installation, digital art, sculpture).
Please submit high-resolution images only.
For performance art, please include video files or online links.
2, Number of Works: Submit 5 pieces.
3, Round 1 Evaluation Criteria:
Technical execution: 50%
Personal style: 25%
Creativity: 25%
4, Notification:
Selected artists will receive a confirmation email including their name and images of the shortlisted works.
